Registration is open to attend 2018’s Facebook F8 Developer Conference which will take place on the 1st and 2nd May 2018 in San Jose, California. You can apply to attend here.
So, what is the F8 conference?
It’s an annual 2-day event which brings together developers, businesses and people from Facebook, Whatsapp, Messenger, Instagram and Oculus.
The conference provides people with interests in each of these platforms the chance to explore what’s next in technology and learn about Facebook’s newest products and innovations. At F8, each year there is an unveiling of new products.
You will hear directly from Facebook’s leadership team, including Mark Zuckerberg himself, to learn about their vision for Facebook and how they’re using technology to “help bring the world closer together”.
The event this year is planned to be the biggest one yet, with more than 50 sessions, interactive experiences, the opportunity to meet Facebook product experts and the chance to interact with Facebook’s global developer community.
What’s on the agenda?
With over 50 sessions planned the event promises a day packed full of new and exciting information. The full agenda hasn’t yet been confirmed, however here’s a selection of what there is on offer so far:
- Build Delightful Messenger Experiences
- Type-checked Python at Instagram
- Cassandra at RocksDB at Instagram
- Navigating Developer Programme Resources
- App Upgrades in Emerging Markets
- Creative User Research Methods in Startups
Keep an eye out for the full schedule on this page.
On top of this, F8 enables you to spend time with team engineers and tech leaders and to ask them in person about specific Facebook integrations. This can take place in the Developer Garage and through Q&A sessions, all whilst experiencing new products in person.
Another huge part of F8 is networking. It is an annual opportunity for the developer community to get together and learn from each other and Facebook. There will be opportunities – such as the end of day 1 party – for people to socialise and get to know one another.
Should I attend?
F8 is a place for developers and businesses that want to learn more about the future of technology with Facebook.
The event is invite only, and many of the places are booked up by businesses and people contacted directly by Facebook. However, you can also apply to attend F8 by completing an application form.
Spaces are limited, as event capacity is around 5,000 people from the global community.
Also, cost of admission is $595 not including transport or accommodation. However, scholarships can be available for smaller businesses and individuals that don’t have the resources to meet this.
If you’re unable to go, or can’t secure a place, you can still view the F8 stream online to watch the keynotes from each day or access all sessions via video on demand. This also requires registration.
If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket, it’s also worth remembering that you should check with your local government to see what documents you require to travel to the U.S. Facebook are able to send visa documents to help you on your way.
Watch this space for an update in May on what you need to know from the conference.
