Shopping has been growing on Instagram and this week the platform has introduced two new ways for it’s billion active account owners to make purchases. This will be music to the ears of the 90 million people that are tapping to reveal shopping tags in posts each month.
Introduction of shopping in Explore
Following on from the introduction of topic channels in June, Instagram has decided to introduce a personalised shopping channel in Explore for each of us. Your shopping channel will include shopping posts from the brands that you follow and other suggested brands you may be interested in.
It is expected that this will become a global feature over the coming weeks.
Expansion of shopping in Stories
This feature was also rolled out in June and has proved to be a great hit. Instagram is now making it a global feature, rolling it out to businesses in 46 countries! This means that when you’re watching Stories from your favourite brands you can tap the image to view product details. You can then continue to make a purchase or decide to continue browsing.
With more than 400 million people using Stories each day, and one third of the most-viewed stories belonging to businesses, this is going to be a game-changer on the retail scene.
